Overview
The Sleep Services Department Assistant will join the Sleep Physiology team at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, supporting staff in the preparation, conduct, and follow‑up of sleep studies and CPAP patient care, across Trafford General Hospital and the Community Diagnostic Centre at Withington. The role includes nights and weekends.
Responsibilities
- Assist qualified staff before, during and after sleep studies, ensuring patient safety and comfort.
- Provide care support to patients on CPAP treatment.
- Maintain accurate documentation and comply with departmental procedures.
- Work collaboratively with the respiratory and sleep physiology team to run the service efficiently.
- Support the team on nights, weekends and unsociable hours as required.
Qualifications
- Basic education including minimum 5 GCSE grade A‑C (grade 4‑9) in Maths and English.
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in a relevant scientific area.
Experience
- Experience working with the general public.
- Proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Office.
- Previous healthcare/clinical experience.
- Familiarity with respiratory or sleep investigations.
- Experience with overnight patient monitoring.
Skills and Knowledge
- Ability to communicate complex and sensitive information to patients, relatives, carers and staff.
- Strong documentation skills.
- Capacity to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Commitment to patient confidentiality.
- Motivated, organised and caring manner.
- Prepared to work unsociable hours on a rostered system, with nights as the main shift.
- Willingness to undertake further study.

£25,760 to £27,476 per annum, pro rata.
