PASTORAL LEADER

Commencing – September 2026

Term Time + 5 INSET days

35 hours per week

Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:00pm

(30-minute unpaid break each day)

Salary – £36,363 to £40,777 FTE

Actual Salary – £29,899 to £33,528

The Role

Watling Academy is seeking a committed and resilient Pastoral Leader to join our pastoral team. This is a role focused on leading and delivering high-quality pastoral care, behaviour support and student wellbeing. As a Pastoral Leader at Watling Academy, you will:

  • Take a lead role in supporting student behaviour, attendance, safeguarding and wellbeing, ensuring high standards are consistently maintained.
  • Play a key role in the school’s behaviour systems, including participating in the on-call rota and responding to incidents across the school.
  • Build strong relationships with students to support them in overcoming barriers, making positive choices and achieving success.
  • Work closely with staff, families and external agencies to provide targeted intervention and coordinated support for students.
  • Monitor and analyse behaviour, attendance and pastoral data to ensure early intervention and continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to the smooth running of school systems and pastoral processes, including transitions and key events.

This is a dynamic and highly visible role within the school, offering the opportunity to influence school culture, support students at pivotal moments, and contribute meaningfully to the wider community.

About Watling Academy

Watling Academy is an Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ secondary school situated on the western edge of Milton Keynes, encompassing the Whitehouse and Fairfields developments. Opening in September 2020, our school is a new and vibrant learning community for students aged 11-18. We are excited to have opened the Watling Academy Sixth Form to our first cohort of Year 12 students from September 2025, which will provide further educational opportunities.
