Overview

We are looking for a willing and enthusiastic, three years Fixed Term Biomedical Support Worker to work across the Clinical Biochemistry and Microbiology departments to assist with the processing of Serology blood specimens.

Responsibilities

  • Book in and receipting of blood specimens.
  • Prepare specimens for analysis.
  • Load and unload specimens onto analysers.
  • Handle specimens for confirmatory testing.
  • Assist Higher Biomedical Support Workers, Biomedical Scientists and senior Biomedical Scientists in the implementation and delivery of a cohesive service.
  • Support the Blood Borne Virus Opt‑Out Testing Initiative at Bedford and Luton & Dunstable Hospital sites.
  • Contribute to day‑to‑day operations and limited technical aspects of the service.
  • Assist in the delivery of a high quality, efficient and effective service through the Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Follow policies and procedures ensuring compliance with UKAS standards, national and European legislation and discipline‑specific regulatory bodies.
  • Assist in training other support staff when required.

Qualifications

  • Previous laboratory or hospital experience is desirable.
  • Willingness to receive full training – will be provided.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work across multiple departments.
  • Knowledge or understanding of UKAS standards and laboratory quality management is an advantage.
