Job Description:

The role of each staff member of Corriewood at Croob Cottage is to support people who have learning disabilities and challenging behaviours to lead purposeful lives and to develop their skills and self-confidence, so that they can contribute to society and make a difference as individuals.

This post holder will work as part of the care team providing a high quality of care to the service users in Croob Cottage, ensuring person-centred and holistic practice is maintained, using the following guidelines;

Main responsibilities

  • To support people in activities of daily living

  • To support people in their maintenance of personal hygiene, grooming, toileting

needs, and in some circumstances, they may require supervision and

assistance with these tasks.

  • To support people in looking after their health needs and attend appointments

with them if they need.

  • To support people with taking medication at the proper times, and be

responsible for the administration of medication.

  • To support and assist people in planning holidays, and going with them if

required.

  • To continually assess the needs and abilities of the service users and to support

change in same.

  • To promote dignity, independence and choice at all times

  • To provide structure and routine for the service users, considering individual

needs

Job Description

  • To follow, where in place, a personalised behavioural programme, that may

involve restrictive practices, or adversely reward programmes.

  • To assist in the planning of activities, and to implement same into daily life in

Croob Cottages.

  • To assist the resident to maintain social, recreational, cultural and religious links

through daily living activities, inside and outside the home

  • To build relationships with external agencies, including, employment, education

and leisure, ensuring social inclusion for all service users.

  • To support service users accessing services and activities in the community,

and to assist them on outings if required.

  • To support and assist people in planning holidays, and going with them if

required.

  • To record accurately in the care plans of service users, making sure that they

are completed accurately by other staff members.

  • Be responsible for maintaining accurate records, keeping in line with Croob

Cottages policies and procedures.

  • Communicate effectively with staff at all levels, regarding the care of the service

users or any new information that needs to be made known to staff.

  • To carry out domestic duties including laundry and food preparation.

  • To be prepared to stay on site during inclement weather.

  • To report and record all contacts made with MDT and relatives accordingly.

  • This is not an exhaustive list of duties and the post holder may be required to

undertake other duties, as may be required, to meet the needs of the service.

Good Practice Responsibilities

1. Carry out duties that ensure client health and safety and are in accordance with

Corriewoods health and safety procedure.

2. Comply with all instructions with regards to Infection Control and Prevention

Follow all policies and procedures as a member of staff of Corriewood.

3. To be flexible with regards to working hours, and to be committed to their job

4. To be cost-effective with regards to waste management.

5. Training and Professional Development

1. Be responsible for Continued Professional Development

2. Participate in formal and informal supervision in line with RQIA requirements and Corriewood policies and procedures.

3. Participate in in-service training courses

4. Be available to attend training courses that are outside of normal working

hours

5. Be responsible for self-directed learning.

6. Become familiar with policies and procedures of Corriewood and update this

knowledge regularly.

Records Management

All employees of Corriewood are legally responsible for all records held, including

resident, corporate and administrative records. These include paper based records

and electronic, including fax and emails. All such records should be maintained under

the Data Protection Act 1998 and should follow Corriewoods policies on

Confidentiality and Consent.

PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT

All employees have a responsibility to participate in regular Appraisals with their Manager and

to identify Performance Standards of the Post. As part of the Appraisal process every

employee is responsible for participating in identifying their own training and development

need to meet those Performance Standards.
