Working within the Healthy and Sustainable Homes team, you will be responsible for the enforcement of legislation relating to the improvement of housing conditions in York.
Responsibilities
- Interpretation and application of housing and public health legislation
- Carrying out inspections identifying health and safety issues and poor management practises in private rented homes
- Deciding appropriate courses of action in relation to infringements, including the service of notices
- Liaising with landlords/ letting agents and others regarding complaints about conditions in private rented homes.
Qualifications
- a can do attitude to challenging problems and situations, and the ability to react at pace.
- an ability to write complex technical reports in easy-to-understand language
- excellent customer, communication, and interpersonal skills
- good IT skills including use of databases
- an understanding of the opportunities and challenges in creating healthy and sustainable homes across all tenures.
You will also need to be a team player with an ability to work across council departments, with other agencies, business, and the public.
You will need to communicate sometimes complex messages in easy-to-understand language so you will need excellent written and spoken English.
This role is suitable as a job share opportunity.
Hybrid working arrangements are available for this role. Each role at CYC is different and your working arrangements will be determined based on the requirements of the role and in collaboration with you and your needs as part of the recruitment process. Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team.
As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C1: Can express themselves fluently and spontaneously, almost effortlessly. Only a conceptually difficult subject can hinder a natural, smooth flow of language.
