Job Title: Night Patient Care Assistant (PCA)

Location: Newmarket, Cambridge • Job Type: Permanent • Hours: 37.5 hours averaged per week • Shifts: 12 hour night shifts on a 4 on 5 off pattern, between 6.30pm‑6.30am, covering weekday, weekend and Bank Holiday nights.

We are seeking a passionate and enthusiastic Patient Care Assistant to join our vibrant Night Team in a specialist veterinary hospital. As a Night PCA, you will be involved in all aspects of patient care, from admission to discharge, including basic husbandry, medication, support during procedures, and housekeeping duties.

Responsibilities

• Provide the highest level of patient care and demonstrate professional behaviours.
• Maintain a clean and hygienic clinical environment.
• Work and communicate effectively with clients and associates.
• Assist veterinary surgeons and nurses with clinical tasks such as patient restraint, waste disposal, infection control and other health and safety policies.
• Perform animal husbandry duties across all wards.
• Support specialist veterinary procedures and administer oral medications.
• Monitor patient welfare and ensure timely intervention when needed.
• Ensure cleanliness and stock levels within the wards.

Qualifications

• Highly organised and capable of working independently.
• Physical, mental and emotional stamina required to work with sick animals.
• Ability to cope with a fast‑paced working environment.
• Highly motivated team player with passion for delivering outstanding care to clients and their beloved pets.
• Over 18 years old – legal requirement.
• Basic knowledge of animal care and handling a benefit, not a requirement.
• Willingness to receive full training provided on the job.

Salary & Benefits

Salary: £28,303.06 per annum.
