Development Designer – Mechanical (Fluid Power)

Title: Development Designer – Mechanical (Fluid Power)

Range: $90,000 – $140,000

Provide engineering support as part of the product development process by focusing on systems level and concept design. Translating product definition into high‑quality, reliable and cost‑effective system level designs ready for detail design execution.

Responsibilities

  • Modify and maintain Husky design standards.
  • Responsible for detail verification using knowledge of design standards.
  • Creation of design documents and validation plans.
  • Contribute to and verify engineering documentation.
  • Create fluid‑power system level concept designs involving hydraulic, pneumatic and cooling water systems.
  • Provide leadership, mentoring and training to team members within their area of primary expertise.
  • System level design with limited guidance applying and improving design standard.
  • Lead and contribute to design reviews.
  • Participate in or lead continuous improvement activities.
  • Verify all concept and systems level process steps of the Product Development process and Product Release process are followed.
  • Drive the product development process leveraging team collaboration.
  • Design risk mitigation including participation or facilitation of FMEA.
  • Champion product compliance to regulatory requirements.
  • Cross‑discipline interaction and communication including cross‑discipline inputs.
  • Represent Husky technically in front of customers, startup support and troubleshooting.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
  • 5‑10 years of design execution experience, in a related industry preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of product, market and customer requirements.
  • Skilled in fluid mechanics simulation and data analysis.
  • Expert in calculating design parameters and applying engineering principles to design.
  • Strong understanding and experience in hydraulic, pneumatic and cooling water systems and related industries.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills for maximum efficiency.
  • Illustrates attention to detail when completing tasks.
  • Advanced communication skills (verbal, written and presentation).
  • Strong problem‑solving skills.
  • Strong creativity and innovation skills.
  • Strong sense of ownership.
  • Advanced understanding of manufacturing and assembly processes.
  • Flexible team player.
  • Experience working with or designing large automated machinery (robots, presses, automatic packaging lines, CNC machinery, steel mills) is an asset.
  • Experience selecting and sizing various components such as pumps, servo motors, heat exchangers, servo valves, pneumatic and hydraulic components.
