Job Overview
The CAMHS Young People’s Team (YPT) is a specialist service supporting young people with moderate to severe mental illness. We are seeking a Band 7 Community Psychiatric Nurse or Mental Health Practitioner for 37.5 hours per week on a 12‑month secondment or fixed‑term basis.
Role Description
You will provide trauma‑informed assessment and care for young people, including those looked after, adopted, or homeless. Acting as a central point for complex referrals, you will deliver consultations with carers and professionals, complete risk assessments, and develop care plans to support recovery and stabilisation.
The role includes supporting transitions for 17+ young people into adult services, delivering training to large groups, and ensuring content aligns with current research. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, carers, and local authorities, demonstrating strong communication and record‑keeping skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the central point for moderate to severe presentations of mental illness within adopted, looked after and homeless young people.
- Work closely with local authorities.
- Provide consultation and training.
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessment and care planning with excellent record‑keeping.
- Hold a clinical caseload and act as Lead Professional.
- Lead multi‑disciplinary meetings.
- Participate actively in team meetings and assess referrals.
- Offer supervision to junior colleagues.
- Provide care across Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland; a driving licence and access to a vehicle are required.
Requirements
A non‑medical prescribing qualification is desirable but not essential. Applicants must demonstrate experience working with complex mental health needs and risk, possess a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle. Internal applicants must have line manager approval.
