The Opportunity

We deliver power system studies for renewable generation developers, data centres, private wire networks and transmission and distribution utilities in the UK and globally, often as part of larger multi‑disciplinary design commissions. The team carries out grid connection studies for offshore wind (HVAC and HVDC), solar PV, BESS, hydro, green hydrogen, data centres and decarbonised industrial demand, including complex dynamic and electromagnetic transient studies in industry‑standard software. We also develop and deliver cutting‑edge innovation to our clients, helping to drive the energy transition through advanced, resilient and sustainable infrastructure.

Due to growth, we’re looking for Engineers and Senior Engineers experienced in power system studies to join our High Voltage team in Manchester, Birmingham or Bristol.

Is this role right for you?

We are looking for candidates holding a minimum of a MSc, MEng or BEng degree in Electrical Engineering / Electrical Power Systems or similar. Preferably you will be a Chartered Engineer or working towards chartership with the IET.

Essential Skills

  • Detailed understanding of GB grid code compliance requirements for new connections and demonstrable experience in applying these.
  • Extensive experience using industry‑standard software packages such as PowerFactory, PSCAD, PSS/E, IPSA, ETAP, EMTP‑ATP and others to build, analyse and verify power system models.
  • Experience performing power quality assessment studies, including Engineering Recommendations G5/5, P28, and P29.
  • Engagement with a range of stakeholders including TOs, DNOs, clients/cust­omers and other engineering packages.
  • The role may require travel within the UK and occasionally overseas to industrial sites.

Senior Engineer Responsibilities

  • Lead technical project teams to deliver packages of power system studies.
  • Provide technical assurance for studies.
  • Mentor and support the development of early‑career engineers.

Additional Desired Skills

  • Bespoke model development in PowerFactory and other power system software packages.
  • Capability in DPL, Python, or other scripting languages.
  • Experience working in a consultancy environment, managing projects and preparing bids.
  • Knowledge of grid codes in the EU and in other countries.
  • Detailed understanding of GB and international grid connection processes.
  • Working knowledge of power system protection settings and coordination.
