What you’ll do…

As a Mechanical Engineering Field Service Engineer, you will provide efficient value for money service to help Forestry England achieve its goals by maintaining and repairing vehicles and specialist forestry equipment, while ensuring that the fleet is professionally and cost effectively maintained to maximise availability. This will include inspecting, repairing, servicing, welding fabrication and recovery work at worksites and other areas. You will typically be maintaining and repairing items such as chainsaws, trailers, quads, agricultural machinery such as tractors and their attachments, cars, vans, and 4X4s. This post will report to the Mechanical Engineering Charge Hand / Service Delivery administrator.

Where you’ll work…

There is one position being advertised with the possibility of 3 different locations dependent on the successful candidate: Sherwood Pines, Birches Valley Cannock, and Bellingham Workshop Northumberland. The role will be managed from Bellingham Workshop for all possible locations.

For Sherwood Pines and Birches Valley, the role will be predominantly mobile and will cover the full central District operational area and Delamere Nursery and occasionally Yorkshire Forest District. A fully equipped mobile workshop vehicle will be provided in addition to necessary tools, equipment, parts and consumables. The mobile vehicle will be based from either location depending on candidate and will be the starting point for work each day, with regular travel required.

The Bellingham Workshop role will be a combination of workshop-based and mobile working. Tools will be provided within the workshop environment. Shared use of mobile workshop vehicles will be required when undertaking mobile duties. The role will primarily support the North District, with travel into the Central and Yorkshire Districts as operational needs require. Regular travel is expected as part of the role.

Position Location and Working Arrangements

There is one position available, with the potential to be based at one of three locations, depending on the successful candidate’s circumstances and operational requirements. The available locations are:

  • Birches Valley, Cannock WS15 2UQ
  • Bellingham Workshop, Northumberland NE48 2HP

Regardless of the appointed location, overall line management of the role will be from Bellingham Workshop.
