About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and experienced health librarian to join our team of dedicated NHS Support Librarians, delivering innovative library and evidence services to support patient care and service improvement across our partner NHS trusts. You will work closely with multi-professional NHS staff to understand and meet their evidence needs through literature searches, current awareness, training and more. You will play a part in creatively promoting library services, raising awareness through outreach, social media and targeted marketing campaigns. If you are passionate about supporting evidence-based healthcare and making library services accessible and approachable, we would love to hear from you.

What you would be doing

  • Provide an expert literature search service for NHS staff, finding the latest evidence to inform patient care, research, service improvement and education
  • Develop strong working relationships with NHS stakeholders to identify needs and tailor services
  • Supporting the management of library systems and e-resources, ensuring NHS users have seamless access to evidence
  • Design and deliver bespoke and scheduled training sessions to groups and individuals on evidence searching, critical appraisal and health literacy both online and in-person
  • Promote library services through outreach, publicity materials, social media and presenting at events
  • Collect feedback and usage data to continuously improve services and demonstrate impact
  • Provide second line support on using library platforms and troubleshooting access issues
  • Provide cover for frontline service points as necessary
  • Pursue a programme of self-development and continual updating of skills demonstrating an active interest and understanding of new technologies and policies

What we are looking for

  • Educated to degree level with a professional library/information science qualification or equivalent experience
  • Experience of delivering library services, ideally within a healthcare or higher education environment
  • Experience of producing and delivering training to library users in group and one to one settings, both in person and online
  • Experience of using and evaluating a range of information sources, including databases, software and Internet resources to support evidence searching
  • Evidence of strong advocacy and influencing skills and an ability to interact and build working relationships with a wide range of people
  • Good oral and written communication skills required to liaise with NHS users and other stakeholders.
  • Excellent customer care skills with experience of working in a frontline service environment.
  • Bibliographic search and appraisal skills relevant to the medical and research community with an ability to construct search strategies and carry out evidence/literature searches
  • A high level of information, digital and health literacy with the ability to support others in the development of these areas
  • Good organisational skills and an ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines with a minimum of supervision
  • Well-developed ICT skills, including some or all of the following: MS Office, Library Management Systems (LMS), VLE’s, reference management software, and use of AI/Large Language Models such as MS Copilot.

What we can offer you

  • The opportunity to continue your career at a world-leading institution and be part of our mission to use science for humanity.
  • Benefit from a sector-leading salary and remuneration package (including 39 days’ annual leave and generous pension schemes).
  • Access to a range of workplace benefits including a flexible working policy from day one, generous family leave packages, on-site leisure facilities and cycle-to-work scheme.
  • Interest-free season ticket loan schemes for travel.
  • Be part of a diverse, inclusive and collaborative work culture with various staff networks and resources to support your personal and professional wellbeing.
