Job Overview
We are seeking a Principal Heritage Consultant to join our team in London or Cambridge. The Cultural Heritage and Archaeology team works across the UK and Ireland and covers all aspects of the historic environment, delivering high quality work on high profile projects. The successful candidate will lead fieldwork projects, deliver bespoke archaeological strategies and works, and contribute to business development.
Responsibilities
- Lead fieldwork projects from planning stages through consent applications and deliver bespoke archaeological strategies and works for developments and infrastructure.
- Monitor and assure the work of WSP-approved fieldwork subcontractors on‑site and in the technical review of deliverables, including RAMS.
- Prepare competitive tenders and design the scope and methodology for archaeological fieldwork in accordance with WSP Health and Safety protocols and requirements.
- Produce or contribute to archaeological desk‑based assessment.
- Undertake stakeholder, curator and client liaison.
Qualifications
- Experience of archaeological fieldwork project management (project, financial and staff management).
- Robust knowledge of Irish archaeology and history and full knowledge of the planning process and relevant environmental / heritage legislation and guidance in Ireland.
- Experience in many or all of the following areas: heritage and planning, master‑planning, heritage conservation, heritage‑led regeneration, recreation and tourism, heritage sustainability master‑planning, placemaking, multi‑disciplinary collaboration and business development.
- Excellent writing skills, strong communication and teamwork abilities.
- Highly motivated, conscientious and efficient, able to meet deadlines and budgets within a busy consultancy environment.
