We are currently recruitingSenior Dental Nurses to support the Postgraduate Dental Department at the Royal London Dental Hospital in Whitechapel. The successful candidates will provide nursing leadership in our Postgraduate Dental Department covering the Restorative, Orthodontics, Paediatrics and Oral Surgery Postgraduate Dental Departments, supporting the Postgraduate programmes working alongside both Trust and QMUL staff. Hours of work will be 9am to 5.30pm with an hour for lunch, Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours a week. The post will be a split of 80/20 clinical and admin.

Main duties of the job

  • To support and assist the Dental Nurse Manager in the day‑to‑day delivery of high‑quality service provision within the department including deputising for the Dental Nurse Manager in their absence.
  • Ensure the department is run efficiently and effectively and that all departmental needs are met.
  • To provide high quality chairside support to all clinicians and ensure that the standard of all dental nursing care is of the highest order and in line with Trust Policies and Procedures.
  • Support the Dental Nurse Manager in ensuring that both Qualified Dental Nurses and Student Dental Nurses undertake structured departmental practical training and Continuing Professional Development in line with current training curriculums and legislation.
  • Provide direct line management to band 4 nurses including, sickness management, annual leave, appraisal, performance management and day to day management of their welfare.
  • Carry out witness training and support trainees with their Record of Experience.
  • Develop an in‑depth knowledge of the department specialism.
  • Champion service improvement for your clinical area.
  • Responsibility for designated areas of clinical operations and other areas of activity as required.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • NEBDN and/or an appropriate professional qualification or equivalent.
  • Post Qualification Certificate.

Experience

  • Previous experience of working in a hospital setting.
  • Responsibility for clinical activities appropriate to department.
  • Responsibility for maintaining stock levels and ordering where appropriate.
  • Ability to work as part of a team with a professional approach towards work and colleagues.
  • Supervision and mentoring of dental nurses and trainee dental nurses and their work within a clinical environment.
  • Participation in the recruitment and selection of dental nurses.

Knowledge

  • Ability to deputise for the Dental Nurse Manager.
  • Knowledge of range of dental nursing procedures
  • Acquired through training and experience.
  • Registered as a witness on the NEBDN Diploma in Dental Nursing programme (or be working towards this).
