Job Overview

We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated, self‑driven and dynamic Band 6 Dental Nurse Manager based at Birmingham Dental Hospital. The role supports the full Group 3 portfolio of services and cross‑covers across localities within the integrated Dental Service. The manager will lead and develop all support staff, oversee clinical and financial management, improve service delivery, and ensure compliance with NHS standards.

Responsibilities

  • Work flexibly within the dental team to provide high‑quality care to a wide spectrum of patients across localities.
  • Attend meetings on behalf of the Dental Matron, UOB and Service‑specific events.
  • Order equipment and stock, ensuring efficient control of levels, budget compliance and accurate accounting.
  • Support Clinical Leads, Divisional Director of Nursing and Therapies, Heads of Service and the Dental Matron in the financial management of the service.
  • Participate in the management and improvement of the integrated Dental Service, including development of policies and protocols as appropriate.
  • Manage dental nurses and support staff at all grades, including appraisal, development and identification of training needs.
  • Coordinate post‑qualification training of dental support staff.
  • Participate in staff surveys, innovation and improvement initiatives, and contribute to shared learning.
  • Develop and empower team members to perform to high standards and innovate.
  • Ensure supportive staff arrangements are in place and carry out appraisals/personnel development reviews for direct reports.
  • Develop staff knowledge and skills to promote equality and diversity and address inequalities in employment and service delivery.
  • Promote a culture that ensures health and wellbeing and creates a ‘Great Place to Work’ for learning and development.

Qualifications & Training

  • Dental Nurse Qualification and registration with the GDC.
  • Possession of a management and/or supervisory qualification.
  • Evidence of continued professional development.
  • Post‑qualifications such as Radiography, Sedation, Special Care, Oral Health.

Experience

  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Evidence of working on own initiative and project development.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Good organisational and time‑management skills.
  • Ability to lead and work as part of a team.
  • Ability to plan and coordinate a number of complex activities.

Other Job Requirements

  • Ability to work flexibly across the Dental Services.
