We’re looking for an experienced and highly organised Directorate Services Manager to provide strategic and operational support to the Finance Directorate. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who thrives in a fast‑paced environment, enjoys working at the heart of senior leadership activity, and is passionate about delivering high‑quality support that enables teams to succeed. The role will initially be a secondment of six months, with the potential to extend.

What it’s like to work here

Reporting into the Chief Finance Officer, this pivotal role ensures the smooth running of business services across the directorate – helping teams stay connected, efficient and focused on delivering organisational priorities. Acting as the central point of contact for the directorate, you’ll coordinate forward planning, manage key processes, and ensure that leadership teams have the right information, resources and support to make effective decisions.

Your contractual location will be our head office in Swindon and there will be an expectation for you to attend the office. You will also be required to work at a National Trust location for 40‑60% of your working week, to be discussed in more detail at interview.

What you’ll be doing

We’re looking for a highly capable and confident professional who is able to engage effectively with senior leaders. You’ll be comfortable handling sensitive information, building trust quickly, and managing complex diary and inbox activity, ensuring priorities are clear and leadership time is used effectively.

You’ll bring people together, align priorities, and act as a trusted partner and ambassador for the directorate, ensuring collaboration across teams and with external partners.

You’ll take a customer‑focused, solutions‑driven approach, providing responsive and high‑quality support while continuously improving how services are delivered.

With good business and operational awareness, you’ll understand how your work contributes to strategic delivery, using insight, financial awareness, and efficiency to support decision‑making.

Who we’re looking for

  • Strong stakeholder and relationship management experience
  • Outstanding communication and influencing skills
  • Excellent organisation, planning and delivery skills
  • Strong technical skills, particularly across Microsoft Office
  • Experience in governance, communications, records management, and handling high‑volume administrative processes
  • Adaptable, collaborative and detail‑focused, able to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a consistently high standard of delivery

The package

  • Substantial pension scheme of up to 10% of basic salary
  • Free entry to National Trust places for you, a guest and your children (under 18)
  • Season ticket loan
  • EV car lease scheme (for roles that meet the salary criteria)
  • Perks at work discounts such as gym memberships, shopping discount codes, cinema discounts
