Role Overview

Senior Category Manager – responsible for shaping and delivering strategic procurement across Places for People. The role leads complex, high-value categories, drives value, manages risk, and ensures strong commercial outcomes that support the organisation’s long-term objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement category strategies in partnership with senior stakeholders.
  • Lead major sourcing initiatives and design robust commercial and contractual arrangements.
  • Manage supplier and contract lifecycle, ensuring effective post‑contract performance.
  • Deliver commercial outcomes that align with the company’s strategic goals.
  • Provide strategic commercial advice to senior stakeholders, influencing requirements and improving compliance.

Essential Criteria

  • Significant procurement experience in the public sector, with expertise in category management and strategic sourcing.
  • Proven ability to develop commercial strategy, including KPIs, SLAs, performance frameworks, payment mechanisms, risk allocation, indexation, social value requirements, and outcome-based specifications.
  • Experience providing strategic commercial advice to senior stakeholders, influencing demand, supporting option appraisals, and improving policy compliance.
  • Leadership experience that includes coaching, developing teams, and driving high performance.
  • Strong commercial acumen and risk management skills.
