Job Description:

At Grant Thornton we do things differently – looking to the future, driving ambitious growth, and pioneering positive change in the industry. We provide audit, tax and advisory services and empower clients through strategic insight, curiosity, and genuine partnership. We also empower our people with real opportunity, an inclusive culture and work‑life balance – a true alternative.

Job description

As an auditor you’ll connect with the issues our clients are facing and deliver assurance. You’ll work with a team of more than 10 different audit and assurance teams and over 50 partners, auditing around 8,000 entities annually – from FTSE and AIM listed groups to small and medium‑sized enterprises. The audit quality is a top priority, reflected in the Financial Reporting Council’s audit quality review.

A look into your future

  • Hands‑on experience in the different aspects of audit, with a variety of clients
  • Responsibility from early in your career, taking ownership of challenging client work
  • Build a strong internal and external network to learn from
  • Work closely with colleagues to provide robust challenge and market‑leading insights to help clients meet their regulatory needs and business objectives
  • Experience everything from examining financial records, carrying out audit tests, to attending stock‑takes and completing audit files
  • Subject to restrictions, you may need to spend time travelling to a variety of client offices
  • On‑the‑job learning, alongside a structured training programme
  • Time to study and revise for your exams, supported by us all the way to the CA professional qualification

The first two years you will work towards completing the AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians), then complete ICAS to become a CA (Chartered Accountant) qualified over the next three years.

Knowing that you’re right for us

We need the right people to achieve ambitious growth targets. We value ambition, drive, adaptability, curiosity, and a commitment to delivering high quality services. We consider academic entry flexibly, alongside strengths and motivations. We look for individuals who want to contribute, spark fresh ideas, and go beyond expectations.

How we work

We have a trust‑based way of working, driven by responsibility. Our teams may work between offices, client sites, at home, and trainees may attend college as required. In‑person working is important; it helps build relationships and connections. The team you join will advise of their working patterns, and flexibility is offered where required.

Study

As a trainee you must balance study and work. You will be provided with study leave to help you complete your professional qualification, but you will also need to study in your spare time. Completing a professional qualification is a substantial commitment.

About us

We are known for our inclusive culture and creating environments where all our people can flourish. We value unwavering principles that shape daily behaviours and decisions, alongside driven action to do the right thing.

Benefits

  • Tailored development programmes and access to coaching
  • Flexible bank holidays – allowing you to celebrate the days that are important to you
  • Pension, life assurance and private medical, additional holiday purchasing and health benefits
  • Access to shopping discounts, gym memberships and financial advice

Beyond the job

Life is more than work. Our agile working framework lets you decide with your manager and team the best way of working for clients, the team and for you. You will receive a competitive salary and core benefits including life assurance, income protection and private medical cover, plus a range of voluntary benefits focused on health, family and wellbeing. The impact you can make goes beyond the day job, from secondments to fundraising for local charities or investing in entrepreneurs in the developing world.

You deserve the best start to your career. Join a place where you’ll learn, won’t limit yourself, and will discover what you’re capable of. Welcome to Grant Thornton – it’s how it should be.
