You will play a key role in delivering a comprehensive housing service to individuals and families who approach the Local Authority for homelessness support. Based at Benjamin Court temporary accommodation unit, you will work closely with families with complex needs, including disability, mental health issues, substance misuse, and domestic abuse.
The role involves building effective working relationships with internal teams and external partners to achieve the best possible outcomes, supporting residents to move towards suitable long-term accommodation in both the social and private rented sectors.
This is a permanent, full-time position (37 hours per week) working a rolling 8-day shift pattern. Shifts are either 8:00am–6:15pm or 11:00am–9:00pm, following a pattern of 5 days on/3 days off and 4 days on/4 days off. The role includes an additional 7% unsocial hours payment, alongside a monthly on-call allowance.
About You
We are seeking a self‑motivated and compassionate individual with a genuine commitment to supporting vulnerable people approaching the Local Authority for homelessness assistance.
You will have experience in office and reception environments, including dealing with customers both face‑to‑face and over the phone. A good understanding of the causes of homelessness and the challenges faced by individuals in temporary accommodation is essential.
Strong IT skills are required, including the ability to confidently use a range of internal and external systems, as well as communicate effectively through both electronic and verbal channels.
The role also involves completing important documentation, such as benefit claims and Housing Benefit applications, so attention to detail is key.
You will need excellent communication skills, with the ability to respond sensitively and professionally to individuals experiencing homelessness.
Benefits
We offer a generous annual leave allowance, flexible work opportunities, access to a Pension Scheme, as well as a range of employee wellbeing and support services. In addition, we provide exclusive rewards and benefits, including discounts, exclusive gym membership prices and salary sacrifice schemes.
Safeguarding and other legal commitments
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable adults and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
