Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust is pleased to advertise two permanent, full-time opportunities for Mental Health and Wellbeing Practitioners to join our team working across the Oldham Primary Care Networks and the Oldham Neighborhood Mental Health Team.
This role is a key part of the ongoing transformation of community mental health services for adults and older adults, helping to bridge the gap between primary care and specialist mental health services.
The focus of the role is to provide early assessment, brief psychological interventions, and support individuals to access appropriate community and mental health services. You will help people to identify achievable goals, promote self‑management, and connect patients with relevant resources in the local area. You will provide short‑term psychological interventions, including group programs, under the direction of the principal clinical psychologist. You will play an integral role in the multi‑disciplinary team, supporting formulation and sharing expertise on appropriate psychological interventions.

Main duties of the job
- Work alongside clients, families, carers and multidisciplinary team members to co‑coordinate care, supporting collaborative decision making about care and treatment.
- Deliver a set of wellbeing‑focused psychologically informed interventions aligned to cognitive‑behavioural principles, based on the best evidence available, addressing problems often experienced by people with severe mental health problems who have experienced trauma.
- Work under clinical supervision from a suitably qualified professional to provide high quality collaborative treatment as a member of the multi‑disciplinary team.
- Work under close clinical skills supervision from an HCPC registered clinical psychologist or BABCP accredited cognitive behavioural therapist to provide specified psychologically‑informed wellbeing‑focused interventions.
- Deliver specified wellbeing‑focused psychologically informed interventions in line with best available evidence, under close supervision from an HCPC registered practitioner, psychologist or CBT therapist, including:
- Behavioural activation and graded exposure
- Teaching problem‑solving skills
- Improving sleep / dream completion
- Recognising and managing emotions
- Guided self‑help for a range of conditions, including anxiety, disordered eating, low mood
- Building confidence

Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
- Successful completion of the national curriculum for Mental Health and Wellbeing Practitioners (Adult Specialist Mental Health) (equivalent to degree level).
- Academic and/or accredited qualifications in mental health; psychology postgraduate certificate (RQF Level 7) delivering the national curriculum for Mental Health and Wellbeing Practitioners (Adult Specialist Mental Health).
- A graduate certificate (RQF Level 6) delivering the national curriculum for Mental Health and Wellbeing Practitioners (Adult Specialist Mental Health).
- BABCP and/or BPS registered/registerable or working towards registration.
Knowledge and Experience
- Experience of working with people with mental health needs gained through a graduate certificate or postgraduate certificate training with significant supervised practice.
- Experience running groups/activities.
- Experience working as part of a team.
- Experience of analysing and communicating complex information verbally and in writing.
Skills and Competences
- Able to establish and maintain empathic, supportive relationships with people in significant distress or who are cognitively impaired, their families and carers.
- Able to receive, understand and communicate confidential client information of a sensitive and often complex nature.
- Able to communicate in a sensitive and reassuring manner, with empathy and where appropriate reassurance.
- Able to make good use of clinical supervision in a group and/or individual format.
- Liaise with other teams and services including external agencies as required for the wellbeing of service users.
Work related circumstances
- Use of a car or access to a means of mobility to travel across the Trust footprint in line with service needs.
- Willing to carry out all duties and responsibilities of the post in accordance with the Trust’s Equal Opportunities and Equality and Diversity policies. Appointments to regulated and controlled activities require an enhanced DBS disclosure.
