About the role
Generate strategic plan for next 5yrs for the department, manage department annual budget, maintain compliance in PM and Statutory works, co‑ordinate day‑to‑day reactive breakdowns, and support the shop floor in breakdown situations. The Engineering Manager works hand in hand with all Shift Leads to communicate, prioritise and direct all technical matters that effect production, ensuring Engineering is fully functional and operating within all company and sector guidelines.
Key duties and responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with manufacturing shift leads to prioritise and align labour to manufacturing priorities, supporting the delivery of monthly Safety, Quality, Delivery & Cost KPIs.
- Ensure site assets are compliant through Safety & Quality standards and metrics.
- Lead the Maintenance team for the Deeside site, ensuring maximum visibility of the team across the factory.
- Execute Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), driving down machine‑time loss and supporting increased OEE year on year.
- Drive Maintenance compliance through safety & quality, and lead the team to real Root‑Cause through effective analysis.
- Prioritise data to communicate within the organisation—decisions based on actual figures rather than intuition.
- Implement predictive and preventative maintenance techniques and support Autonomous maintenance.
- Manage planned maintenance execution and ensure 100% compliance.
- Be hands‑on in supporting the Engineering team in breakdowns, using skills and experience to guide and deliver.
Skills & Experience
- Time‑served engineer.
- Considerable knowledge and experience in manufacturing engineering.
- Knowledge of control systems, programming and technical fault‑finding.
- Expertise in mechanical/electrical and pneumatic systems.
- Previous experience of improvement projects and leading teams.
- Experience in a highly regulated maintenance environment.
- Management experience within a maintenance framework (advantageous).
- Self‑motivation and flexibility of job assignments.
- Blend of leadership and technical skills.
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Results and data‑orientated mindset.
- Driven attitude with the ability to hold high working standards and challenge when required.
- Ability to build a strong working relationship with employees on the shop floor.
Qualifications / Education
- Time‑served engineer (electrical & mechanical).
- Six Sigma Green Belt (preferred).
- Engineering Degree, HNC or higher – similar qualifications considered.
Travel Requirements
Minimal travel may be required.
Working Conditions
The role is split between office‑based work, contractor management and hands‑on tasks.
