Summary

The Workflow Manager plays a key role in developing, maintaining and improving Volant Media’s production workflows. Reporting to the Head of Workflow and Design, the role works closely with stakeholders across Volant Media to ensure systems, processes and workflows remain efficient, reliable and aligned with operational requirements.

Workflow Managers bring significant expertise in one or more workflow disciplines relevant to modern news production while maintaining a broad understanding of broadcast and digital news production workflows. The Workflow team operates as a centre of expertise, driving operational excellence, innovation and continuous improvement across Volant Media and its affiliates.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development, implementation and continuous improvement of workflows across Volant Media’s operational and content environments.
  • Act as the subject matter expert for one or more specialist workflow disciplines, providing guidance and support to colleagues and stakeholders across Volant Media.
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders across Volant Media to ensure workflows remain efficient, reliable and aligned with operational requirements.
  • Identify workflow inefficiencies, operational challenges and opportunities for improvement, recommending and supporting appropriate solutions.
  • Configure, test and support workflow systems, tools and services.
  • Create and maintain workflow documentation, procedures and user guidance.
  • Support the introduction of new workflows, technologies and services, including testing and operational readiness activities.
  • Deliver workflow training and support to staff and freelancers.
  • Investigate workflow issues and contribute to incident reviews, root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain effective relationships with stakeholders, vendors and suppliers.
  • Keep abreast of industry developments, workflow innovations and evolving production practices that may enhance operational effectiveness.

Requirements

  • Significant expertise in at least one workflow discipline relevant to modern news production.
  • Strong understanding of broadcast, newsroom and digital content production workflows.
  • Proficiency in newsroom systems, content management systems, media asset management platforms or equivalent workflow technologies.
  • A track record of supporting workflow implementation, operational change and process improvement initiatives.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate operational requirements into practical workflow solutions.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across multiple functions and disciplines.
  • Skilled in creating operational documentation, procedures and user guidance.
  • Confident delivering training and supporting users in both in-person and remote environments.
  • Familiarity with systems such as Saga, Mimir, Vizrt, Flowics, Adobe Premiere or equivalent broadcast and production technologies would be advantageous.
