Job Title: Funding and Audit Manager

Location: Burton upon Trent

Hours: 37 hours per week, full time, permanent

Salary: 43,694 – 46,363 per annum

Job Overview

The Funding and Audit Manager is responsible for leading funding operations and ensuring full compliance across a range of funding streams, including further education, higher education and apprenticeships. This role plays a critical part in maintaining data integrity, supporting audit readiness and safeguarding financial accuracy.

The postholder will act as the subject matter expert on funding, providing guidance to senior stakeholders, overseeing funding submissions and ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements. The role also supports wider management information functions and deputises for the Head of Business Intelligence when required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation and submission of funding returns, including ILR submissions, ensuring accuracy, compliance and adherence to deadlines.
  • Act as the organisation’s specialist on funding streams, providing expert advice on funding regulations, risks and opportunities.
  • Manage audit processes, including preparation for audits, coordination of audit activities and ensuring compliance with internal and external requirements.
  • Maintain high standards of data accuracy across management information systems, including validation and reconciliation of learner data.
  • Monitor and interpret funding rules and regulatory changes, ensuring policies and processes remain up to date.
  • Develop, review and implement procedures relating to funding compliance and audit requirements.
  • Provide training and guidance to staff on funding rules, data quality and compliance expectations.
  • Deputise for the Head of Business Intelligence as required.
  • Support wider management information functions, including enrolment processes, timetabling, examinations and data quality management.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Strong analytical skills with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Experience of working with complex data systems and ensuring data accuracy.
  • Knowledge of funding methodologies and compliance requirements within education or a similar regulated environment.
  • Ability to interpret and apply regulatory guidance and funding rules.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of learners.
  • GCSE (or equivalent) English and Maths at Grade C/Level 4 or above, or willingness to achieve.
