£13.44 per hour, 16 hours per week (10 am–2 pm, Mon/Tue/Thu & Fri).

Head Office (B32 3BZ) with outreach across Birmingham.
About the Role
Midland Mencap is looking for a committed and enthusiastic Assessment & Reviewing Officer to help bring the vision of the Birmingham Carers Hub to life. This dynamic position offers independence and strong team collaboration.
You Will

- Understand the unique challenges faced by unpaid carers and be ready to listen and act as needed.
- Communicate confidently with carers, colleagues, professionals (e.g., social workers, teachers) and community organisations.
- Be organised, adaptable, and resilient, blending emotional intelligence with practical action.
- Take a proactive approach to safeguarding, confidentiality and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct Statutory Carers Assessments and Wellbeing Assessments using a strengths‑based, person‑centred approach.
- Provide timely and accurate information, advice and guidance to unpaid carers to support their wellbeing.
- Engage effectively with Birmingham’s culturally diverse communities, identifying individual and community strengths.
- Operate within a rota system to ensure consistent, responsive frontline service delivery.
- Collaborate with and support volunteers to extend the service reach.
- Promote person‑centred, user‑led approaches including citizen consultation and co‑production.
- Participate in marketing and promotion of the Birmingham Carers Hub and wider service offers.
- Maintain up‑to‑date, person‑centred wellbeing plans and undertake high‑quality risk assessments tailored to unpaid carers’ needs.
- Review activities and casework regularly to ensure effectiveness and continuous improvement.
- Recognise and understand barriers faced by unpaid carers from under‑represented or hard‑to‑reach communities.
- Build and sustain working relationships with professionals such as social workers, healthcare providers and educators.
- Work independently and collaboratively, demonstrating initiative and excellent communication skills.
- Plan and manage workloads to meet referral, assessment and KPI targets.
- Identify and act upon safeguarding concerns following multi‑agency guidelines and comply with Midland Mencap’s policies, GDPR and safeguarding protocols.
- Maintain accurate, confidential records and reports in a timely professional manner.
Qualifications
Desirable
- Work/lived experience with unpaid carers.
- Experience in social care, health, education or parent‑care of a disabled child.
Essential
- Administrative: follow set procedures, good written and spoken communication, use of Microsoft 365 Apps, case‑management systems.
- Working with diverse communities: understanding and awareness of cultural backgrounds.
- Organisational: plan and prioritise workload, facilitate meetings and group discussions.
- Interpersonal: work respectfully across communities, maintain discretion and confidentiality, work independently and as part of a team.
- Adaptability: comfort working in dynamic environments.
- Awareness of disability and carer issues: knowledge of challenges faced by disabled people and unpaid carers.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting welfare of vulnerable individuals.
- Co‑production: understanding of person‑centred, strengths‑based approaches.

- Travel across Birmingham; access to a car and a full UK driving licence essential.
