Mechanical Design EngineerLocation: Bedfordshire (On-site)Salary: £45,000 – £55,000 (DOE)Hours: Monday – Thursday: 08:00 – 17:00 (30 min lunch)Friday: 08:00 – 13:00 (30 min lunch)Occasional overtime as requiredThe OpportunityA growing engineering and manufacturing business is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support increased demand and a high level of bespoke machine design. This role offers the opportunity to work on innovative machinery projects from concept through to delivery, including new builds, upgrades, and retrofits.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign mechanical systems and machinery using SolidWorksProduce customer layout drawings using SolidWorks or AutoCADDevelop designs in line with client specifications and requirementsCreate detailed Bills of Materials (BOMs)Generate 2D technical drawings (assemblies, components, fabrication)Produce pneumatic schematicsCollaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal design solutionsIdentify and implement product improvementsPrepare machine manuals and technical documentationProvide technical support to production and assembly teamsComplete internal documentation including test plans and validation recordsSupport resolution of design and build issues across departmentsSkills & ExperienceEssentialRecognised qualification in Mechanical Engineering (e.g. BTEC, HNC or equivalent)Proven background in mechanical engineeringMinimum 5 years’ experience in machinery designStrong experience with 3D CAD software (ideally SolidWorks)Ability to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issuesProficient in Microsoft OfficeStrong team collaboration skillsDesirableDegree in Mechanical EngineeringChartered status (or working towards it)Experience building or commissioning machineryExperience with production line validation and documentationAutoCAD experience for layout drawingsKnowledge of pneumatic systemsPersonal AttributesStrong communication skillsSelf-motivated with the ability to use initiativeAble to work to tight deadlinesWillingness to travel in the UK and internationally when requiredValid passportAdditional InformationThis is a varied role within a dynamic and expanding business.
