Job Title: Principal Development Management Officer

Location: London

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Principal Development Management Officer to join a fast-paced and high-performing Development Management team, recognised for delivering best-in-class planning services. You will play a key role in shaping major regeneration and development projects across the borough.

THE ROLE

As a Principal Development Management Officer, you will lead on a wide range of Development Management projects, including complex major applications and strategically significant schemes.

You will be responsible for managing projects from pre-application through to determination and appeals, while working closely with senior stakeholders, elected members, and multidisciplinary teams. This role will position you as a key contributor within the organisation as a Principal Development Management Officer.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leading on complex major planning applications and strategic developments
  • Managing pre-application, application, and appeal work
  • Preparing and presenting reports to Planning Committees, Cabinet, and Members
  • Undertaking high-quality planning assessments in line with policy and legislation
  • Managing a complex workload across multiple projects
  • Liaising with internal teams, stakeholders, and external bodies
  • Supporting and mentoring junior staff and contributing to team leadership
  • Providing technical advice to the public and stakeholders
  • Contributing to spatial planning and policy development where required

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • RTPI accredited degree in Town Planning or related discipline
  • MRTPI qualified or working towards Chartership
  • Strong knowledge of planning legislation, policy, and Development Management
  • Experience managing complex and large-scale planning applications
  • Ability to lead projects and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Experience mentoring or managing junior staff
  • Strong analytical, organisational, and problem-solving abilities
  • A proactive, solutions-focused, and customer-oriented approach
