Customs Manager – Up to £70,000

We’re looking for a Customs Manager to join our client who are a Road Logistics company based in the Northwest of England. As Customs Manager, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and governing all customs strategy, compliance, and operations across the organisation. The role ensures adherence to all relevant regulations while driving efficiency and best practice across customs processes.

Location: Remote but travel to Northwest of England and Ireland required

Salary: Up to £70,000

Key Responsibilities

  • Define, develop, and deliver the organisation’s customs strategy
  • Drive continuous improvement and optimisation of customs processes
  • Evaluate and implement digital customs solutions and systems
  • Ensure full compliance with HMRC, Irish Revenue, the EU Customs Code, and ICS2
  • Maintain audit readiness and robust internal controls
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate customs-related risks
  • Oversee daily customs operations, including declarations and documentation
  • Ensure timely and accurate clearance of goods
  • Manage operational issues, exceptions, and escalations
  • Lead, manage, and develop the Customs team
  • Set performance objectives and monitor team delivery
  • Build capability and support succession planning within the team
  • Collaborate with Operations, Finance, IT, and Commercial functions
  • Support customer requirements and ensure high service standards
  • Align customs processes with wider business objectives
  • Act as the primary point of contact for customs authorities
  • Monitor and interpret regulatory and legislative changes
  • Ensure organisational readiness for new customs requirements

Key Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience in customs or international trade for a UK Customs broker or Forwarder
  • Experience in UK/EU Road customs
  • Strong knowledge of UK and EU customs legislation
  • Proven experience in customs compliance and operations
  • Experience with AEO (Authorised Economic Operator) accreditation
  • Exposure to digital customs systems and transformation initiatives
