About this job

We are seeking a disciplined and detail-focused Environmental Monitoring Technician to undertake groundwater, borehole and surface water monitoring across multiple landfill sites.

This is a compliance-driven role requiring accurate sampling, strict Chain of Custody management and laboratory coordination.

Full training will be provided in landfill monitoring protocols and regulatory compliance procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor internal and external groundwater boreholes.
• Carry out surface water sampling and inspections.
• Complete Chain of Custody documentation accurately.
• Coordinate sample dispatch and communication with laboratories.
• Maintain structured digital monitoring records.
• Support quarterly and annual environmental compliance programmes.
• Monitor and record leachate levels across landfill cells and storage infrastructure.
• Operation of on-site leachate treatment plants (LTPs).
• Maintain operational logs and performance records for leachate management systems.
• Coordinate with treatment plant operators or specialist contractors where intervention is required.
• Assist in maintaining compliance with environmental permit discharge conditions.
• Travel between sites and work independently.
• Environmental, scientific or technical background.
• Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
• Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel.
• Good organisational skills and reliability.
