Job Description:

As a Cost Controller, you’ll play a vital role in enhancing project performance and stability across major submarine programmes. Working within a collaborative project controls environment, you’ll collect, analyse and report meaningful cost information that enables informed decision‑making at both project and programme level. Day‑to‑day, you’ll build deep expertise in cost control, earned value and financial analysis within a highly regulated defence environment. Your work will directly influence delivery outcomes, helping the business manage change, improve forecasting accuracy and maintain control over complex projects, while developing valuable skills that will support long‑term career progression.

  • Managing actual project costs against agreed performance baselines
  • Producing accurate internal and external cost reports for senior leadership
  • Analysing cost, variance and performance data to identify risks and opportunities
  • Supporting forecast coordination with activity owners across the programme
  • Conducting investigations and providing clear recommendations based on evidence

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2–3 days in the office/onsite and 2–3 days at home.

Essential Experience

  • Experience working in a cost control, project controls or financial environment
  • Understanding of project cost management, earned value or finance principles
  • Strong data analysis skills with the ability to interpret and explain findings
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Proven ability to manage stakeholders and communicate clearly at all levels

Qualifications

  • A relevant professional qualification or demonstrable experience in a project or cost control environment
  • Association for Project Management Project Fundamentals Qualification or Project Management Qualification would be advantageous

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
