An exciting opportunity for a Robotics Welding Technician to join a specialist manufacturing team working with cutting-edge Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) technology.
This role is focused on operating advanced multi-axis robotic welding systems to produce large-scale 3D printed metal components for high-value aerospace and defence applications. The successful candidate will combine fabrication and manufacturing knowledge with robotic process control, quality assurance, and continuous improvement activities.
Important: This is not a traditional hand-welding position. Candidates should have experience operating robotic, CNC, PLC-controlled, or automated manufacturing systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate multi-axis robotic welding cells used for WAAM manufacturing
- Set up and monitor automated welding processes
- Produce large-scale 3D metal printed components to specification
- Monitor weld bead formation and build quality throughout production
- Conduct visual inspections and quality checks on completed parts
- Troubleshoot process issues and implement corrective actions
- Record and maintain manufacturing data, process parameters, and traceability records
- Work closely with Engineering and Quality teams to optimise manufacturing processes
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across the production environment
- Ensure compliance with all safety, quality, and manufacturing procedures
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong background in welding, fabrication, or metalworking environments
- Experience operating CNC, PLC-controlled, robotic, or automated manufacturing equipment
- Understanding of arc welding processes and welding metallurgy
- Knowledge of ABB RAPID programming or similar robotic control systems
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent attention to detail and quality standards
- Ability to interpret technical instructions and manufacturing documentation
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
Desirable Experience
- WAAM (Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing)
- Robotic welding systems
