Are you ready to lead a high-impact AI and Machine Learning function at the heart of a fast-paced consumer business?

We’re looking for an exceptional Head of ML & AI Engineering to lead a talented team of 10 engineers and data scientists, driving the next generation of intelligent customer experiences through cutting-edge AI, machine learning, search, personalisation, and recommendation technologies.

The Opportunity

As Head of ML & AI Engineering, you’ll own the vision, strategy, and delivery of AI-powered customer-facing capabilities across search, recommendations, personalisation, and emerging GenAI initiatives.

Working closely with Product, Data, Engineering, and Commercial leaders, you’ll build and scale systems that directly impact customer engagement, conversion, retention, and revenue.

You’ll lead a high-performing team of ML Engineers, AI Engineers, and Data Scientists while helping define what world-class AI looks like within a modern consumer organisation.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of 10 ML and AI professionals.
  • Define and execute the AI & Machine Learning roadmap aligned to business objectives.
  • Establish engineering excellence, best practices, and scalable operating models.
  • Partner with executive stakeholders to identify and prioritise high-value AI opportunities.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, experimentation, and continuous learning.
  • Drive the development of advanced recommendation and personalisation systems.
  • Enhance search relevance through modern ML techniques, ranking models, embeddings, and semantic search.
  • Lead the adoption of GenAI, LLMs, and emerging AI technologies where they create measurable customer value.
  • Own the end-to-end ML lifecycle, from experimentation through to production deployment and optimisation.
  • Ensure robust MLOps practices, model governance, monitoring, and scalability.

Customer Experience & Commercial Impact

  • Deliver AI solutions that improve customer discovery, engagement, conversion, and retention.
  • Use behavioural, transactional, and customer data to create highly personalised experiences.
  • Partner with Product teams to translate customer problems into scalable AI solutions.
  • Measure success through clear business outcomes and performance metrics.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience leading Machine Learning and AI Engineering teams.
  • Strong background building and scaling customer-facing ML products.
  • Deep expertise in search, personalisation, recommendation engines, or relevance optimisation.
  • Experience delivering production-grade machine learning platforms and services.
  • Strong understanding of modern AI technologies, including LLMs and Generative AI.
  • Track record of influencing senior stakeholders and driving business outcomes through technology.
  • Experience operating within high-growth, consumer-focused, eCommerce, marketplace, retail, travel, media, or digital businesses.

Technical Expertise

  • Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and Recommendation Systems.
  • Search technologies, ranking models, semantic search, vector databases, and retrieval systems.
  • MLOps, model deployment, monitoring, and experimentation frameworks.
  • Cloud-native environments (AWS preferred).
  • Python and modern ML frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar.
  • Data platforms, feature stores, and large-scale customer datasets.
