We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Deputy Data Protection Officer (DPO) to join our Compliance Team within the Information Management department. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in ensuring compliance with data protection legislation while supporting a culture of information governance excellence.
The team sits within Corporate Development, which brings together Business Insight, Corporate Communications, Executive Support, Information Management, and the Portfolio Programme Management Office. Together, these services deliver strategic priorities and provide a unified professional service.
As Deputy DPO, you will work closely with the Data Protection Officer and key stakeholders to deliver high-quality advice, assurance, and compliance activity. You will contribute to protecting personal data, improving processes, and enhancing service delivery across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide timely, credible, and high-quality data protection advice and assurance
- Support compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018 and other relevant legislation
- Assist in the development and delivery of the organisation’s Data Protection Strategy
- Conduct information assurance activities, recommending and influencing remedial actions
- Support investigations into personal data breaches, including follow-up actions
- Maintain and update the Information Asset Register and Record of Processing Activities (ROPA)
- Develop and deliver training materials, including e-learning and guidance resources
- Produce reports and briefings to support data-driven decision-making
- Promote service standards, tools, and Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders and represent Information Management at meetings
- Deputise for the Data Protection Officer when required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Strong attention to detail and ability to handle sensitive information with discretion
- Experience presenting and analysing data and information accurately
- Confident in making risk-based decisions
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and influencing skills across a range of stakeholders
- Strong report writing and analytical skills
- Experience conducting compliance audits or reviews
- Knowledge of the Data Protection Act 2018 (or willingness to undertake training)

Requirements
To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- You must have the right to work in the UK, with no restrictions on your employment
- Hold a full UK driving licence
- Internal applicants must have successfully completed their probation period
- Meet residency requirements for vetting:
Vetting level: MV Level Vetting – minimum 5 years UK residency
