Job Summary: An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Band 5 staff nurse to join our dynamic Coronary Care unit and Cardiac Cath Lab Team at Queen Elizabeth Hospital. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your nursing career within a specialist area and work alongside a skilled and supportive multidisciplinary team. The post holder will provide high‑quality evidence‑based care for patients with both acute and complex cardiac conditions, working as part of a 24/7 service, covering day and nights, weekends, bank holidays and emergency on‑call cover. The post holder will be expected to partake in on‑call duties once a month or twice every quarter, in addition to full‑time hours. They will practice autonomously and be responsible and accountable for safe, compassionate, person‑centred, evidence‑based nursing that respects and maintains dignity and human rights.
Key Responsibilities
- Work according to the NMC Code of Professional Standards of Practice and behaviour, and be accountable for own professional actions.
- Use up‑to‑date knowledge and evidence to assess, plan, deliver and evaluate care, communicate findings, influence changes and promote health and best practice.
- Achieve and maintain competence in identified mandatory and statutory training, and develop and maintain clinical competencies, skills and knowledge that relate to the area of clinical practice.
- Respond to patients, relatives and carers concerns as they arise and take remedial action as required.
- Take charge of the practice setting as required or a defined area of the practice setting.
- Assume responsibility for undertaking tasks delegated by the nominated line/shift manager, which may include representing the practice setting at meetings, link nurse responsibilities, audit, governance initiatives and supervision and role competence assessments for unregistered nurses and students/trainees.
- Contribute to the development of service and quality improvement initiatives within a collaborative framework to enhance patient experience and outcome and ensure standards of care are monitored and maintained at the highest level.
Qualifications
- Evidence of professional and clinical knowledge acquired through training to degree/diploma level leading to professional registration on the appropriate part of the NMC register (Adult/Child/Learning Disability or Mental Health).
- Evidence of undergraduate education for newly qualified nurses or postgraduate continuing professional development for registered nurses with post‑registration experience.
Experience
- Previous or recent experience or working in an acute secondary health and care setting, which can include undergraduate student placements within the last 12 months.
- Willingness to become a practice supervisor or assessor and meet NMC standards for student supervision and assessment.
- Demonstrable understanding and knowledge of the NMC code of conduct and the proficiencies and standards for registered nurses, with the ability to apply these to undergraduate training or postgraduate practice.

- Awareness of Health and Safety issues.
- Desirable: Experience in working in an acute NHS practice setting as an undergraduate student nurse or postgraduate registered nurse.

Pay
Salary: £32,073.00 to £39,043.00 per year, on the Agenda for Change Band 5 scale.
