Job Description:

ABOUT AL MARKETING

AL Marketing is an award-winning creative agency based just outside of Hertford.

We specialise in destination marketing, working with shopping centres, retail destinations and leisure brands to create campaigns, content and experiences that engage audiences and drive results.

We’re a small, ambitious team that values creativity, curiosity and initiative. We challenge our clients to avoid predictable marketing solutions. We’re looking for someone who wants to join the team, to contribute ideas, make great work, learn new skills and grow with the agency.

THE ROLE

We’re looking for a Creative Designer to join our team.

We’re deliberately keeping the level open. You may be a recent graduate with an outstanding portfolio and a hunger to learn, or you may already have agency or client-side experience. What matters most is your creativity, attitude, ability to communicate ideas and willingness to get stuck in.

This role goes beyond traditional graphic design. You’ll be involved in campaign concepts, content creation, presentations, social media, video projects and creative development across a wide range of client work.

You’ll work closely with the Client Services team, Social Media team and wider agency to help bring ideas to life across multiple channels.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

Creative Thinking & Campaign Development

  • Generating and developing creative ideas for campaigns, promotions, events and activations
  • Exploring multiple creative routes before refining the strongest solution
  • Participating in brainstorming sessions and collaborative creative workshops
  • Contributing ideas for branding, content, experiences and audience engagement
  • Helping develop campaign messaging, headlines and concept lines where appropriate
  • Researching trends, audiences and cultural insights to inspire stronger creative work

Design & Creative Production

  • Designing creative campaigns across print, digital and social channels
  • Producing artwork for press, posters, outdoor, direct mail, POS and promotional materials
  • Creating digital advertising assets, web graphics, social content and email creatives
  • Supporting branding, signage, wayfinding and identity projects
  • Creating presentation decks for pitches, proposals and client meetings
  • Ensuring work is delivered to a consistently high standard across all formats

Content, Motion & Video

  • Creating and editing content for social media platforms
  • Supporting video production projects from concept through to delivery
  • Storyboarding and visualising ideas for content and campaigns
  • Editing video content and creating motion graphics where appropriate
  • Helping shape visual direction and creative approaches for shoots and content production

AI & Emerging Creative Tools

  • Using AI tools to accelerate research, ideation and creative development
  • Exploring image generation tools to visualise concepts and creative directions
  • Using large language models and AI assistants to support content development, creative exploration and workflow efficiency
  • Staying curious about new technologies and sharing useful discoveries with the team

Agency Support & Collaboration

  • Working closely with colleagues across creative, social and client services teams
  • Assisting with shoot preparation, production and post-production tasks
  • Supporting website, CMS and email marketing projects when required
  • Contributing to agency marketing and self-promotional activity
  • Being willing to help with both high-profile creative projects and day-to-day agency tasks

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We’re more interested in potential, attitude and creative ability than a specific number of years’ experience.

The ideal person will be:

  • Curious, creative and commercially aware
  • Comfortable sharing and presenting ideas
  • Able to explain and justify creative decisions
  • Confident exploring multiple solutions to a problem
  • Enthusiastic about learning new skills and technologies
  • Positive, collaborative and proactive
  • Organised and able to manage multiple projects
  • Interested in culture, fashion, retail design, technology and emerging trends

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

  • Excellent knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign
  • Strong visual communication and layout skills
  • Ability to work across both print and digital formats
  • Good presentation and communication skills

  • Video editing experience (Premiere Pro or equivalent)
  • Motion graphics and animation (After Effects or equivalent)
  • Content creation for social media platforms
  • Presentation design and storytelling
  • Copywriting, concept writing or campaign development experience
  • Experience using AI creative tools and workflows
  • Photography, videography or creative direction experience

BENEFICIAL BUT NOT ESSENTIAL

  • WordPress or other CMS platforms
  • Mailchimp or email marketing platforms
  • Basic HTML/CSS knowledge
  • Website design experience
  • Microsoft Office and PowerPoint

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

Within your first year, we’d love you to:

  • Bring fresh thinking and new creative ideas to campaigns and pitches
  • Develop confidence presenting work internally and externally
  • Create high-quality design work across multiple channels
  • Contribute to content and video projects
  • Use AI and emerging tools to improve creative workflows
  • Expand your skills across design, content, digital marketing and creative strategy

HYBRID WORKING ROLE

The AL Marketing team tends to work on a flexible hybrid basis with around 3 days per week being based in our office in Brickendonbury, near Hertford (usually Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesday but this may vary). This allows for team meetings and effective internal communication. We are happy for any staff to work full-time in the office if they wish.

The Brickendonbury location isn’t well-served by public transport, so realistically travel by car is essential for the office working days.

PACKAGE OFFERED

  • Salary dependent on experience and skillset

·       23 days holiday, plus office shut down between Christmas and New Year (not taken as part of your annual leave). Holiday allowance also increases as you stay with the company.

  • Option for private healthcare
  • Additional birthday day off
  • Company pension scheme
  • Company laptop and phone
  • Hybrid/flexible homeworking
  • Free on-site parking
  • Regular social events including a yearly epic Christmas party
  • Support with gaining industry qualifications

WHY JOIN US?

This is an opportunity to work on varied projects within a growing agency where your ideas will be heard and your contribution will make a genuine impact.

You’ll have the chance to develop creatively, broaden your skillset and gain exposure to every stage of the creative process, from initial concept through to delivery.

If you’re excited by creativity, content, design, technology and continuous learning, we’d love to hear from you.
