VAT Specialist – Transition to Law (SQE Support)

The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified VAT specialist to join the dedicated VAT team of a leading international law firm in London.
This role is specifically designed for candidates currently working in an accountancy firm who are looking to transition into private practice and ultimately qualify as a lawyer. The firm offers a clear pathway into law, including full support for SQE studies and qualification.
You will work alongside highly regarded tax lawyers on complex, high-value matters, gaining exposure to the legal side of VAT advisory while building towards a long-term legal career.
Key Responsibilities
- Advising on a broad range of UK and international VAT matters
- Supporting on transactional VAT advice, including M&A, real estate, and cross-border structuring
- Assisting with VAT disputes and investigations, including HMRC enquiries
- Conducting legal research and drafting technical VAT advice and opinions
- Collaborating closely with lawyers across tax, corporate, and finance teams
- Developing client relationships and contributing to business development initiatives
Candidate Profile
- Qualified VAT specialist (ACA / CTA / ATT or equivalent)
- Currently working within an accountancy or professional services firm
- Strong technical grounding in UK VAT, with exposure to complex advisory work
- Demonstrable interest in transitioning into law and qualifying as a solicitor
- Excellent analytical, communication, and drafting skills
- Ambitious, commercially minded, and keen to work in a fast-paced legal environment
