Performs a variety of routine servicing, inspections and subsequent repairs to one or more types of Distribution Tractors, Ro‑Ro Tractors and other sea port equipment, Aircraft Equipment (GSE Only) and any other manufacturer’s products on customer’s premises when requested. Performs visual or operational checks to locate worn, dirty or maladjusted parts. Carries out technical inspections or uses technical manuals and diagnostic techniques to find and repair inoperable or defective machine parts, components or systems using a small variety of test equipment. Requires thorough inspections of accident‑damaged machines and production of accurate reports to enable repair. Works for the greater period without direct supervision, observing all company and site Health & Safety requirements at all times.
Responsibilities
- Represent Terberg DTS Service Department in the field and display the highest standards of appearance, manner and technical ability.
- Work as an effective member of the Service Department.
- Undertake the tasks and assignments issued by the Service Department either by oral instruction or in the form of electronic work instructions.
- Determine own repair and maintenance techniques, undertake equipment selection, proper materials and implement correct safety measures (e.g. eye protection, suitable clothing).
- Obtain agreement from the customer that the work has been completed as required/requested, and obtain signature and purchase order number where necessary.
- Perform all relative administrative procedures to acceptable standards.
- Perform all inventory procedures relative to the vehicle parts stock to maintain an accurate account of components carried and used.
- Ensure maintenance and repairs are carried out in accordance with manufacturers’ instructions and the Safe System of Work procedures.
- Understand the Company’s Health & Safety Policy and work safely, cooperating to enable Terberg DTS (UK) Ltd to fulfil its statutory obligations.
- Attend all training courses / seminars as the business requires.
- Keep all company equipment in a clean, safe and presentable manner (i.e. company vehicles etc.). Company supplied equipment to be kept secure at all times.
- Use mobile phones in line with current legislation.
- Work with all departments, particularly with projects that are being explored or implemented.
- Be prepared to work additional hours when required, which may include out‑of‑hours call out.
- Be prepared to work away from home on customer’s vehicles either with or without workshop facilities, which may involve unsociable hours to ensure job completion.
- Undertake any other duties consistent with the purpose of this job or to support the needs of the business.
- Maintain high attention to detail without sacrificing quality; be flexible, work to tight deadlines, handle pressure, and communicate effectively at all levels.
- Develop strong working relationships and manage own workload independently, prioritising tasks.
- Support continuous improvement by challenging the status quo and researching problem‑solving solutions.
Qualifications
- City and Guilds Level 3 – Vehicle Mechanical and Electronic Systems, Maintenance and Repair Qualification or equivalent.
- Substantial experience in auto‑electrician fault diagnosis and resultant repairs, including the use of electronic diagnostic equipment.
- Experience with a range of heavy goods / specialist vehicles.
- Knowledge of current road traffic law (speed limits, van weight restrictions, driver’s hours, etc.).
- Knowledge of Terberg Tugs and other related equipment.
- Knowledge of latest diagnostic systems.
- UK valid driving licence.
