Main Duties of the Job
We are seeking an efficient and motivated individual to join the critical care audit team. The post holder will collect and enter data, resolve queries, perform simple analyses, and produce and disseminate written reports. Coding of reasons for admission to the Intensive Care Unit is included; applicants should ideally have a basic level of theoretical knowledge or equivalent experience providing an understanding of medical terminology, anatomical and physiological terms.
Job Responsibilities
- Demonstrate attention to detail and accuracy; possess keyboard and word processing skills sufficient to enable data entry and formulation of reports.
- Possess knowledge of database systems and spreadsheets; experience using clinical information, patient administration and results systems is an advantage.
- Concentrate for prolonged periods of time; ability to work within ICU and HDU areas, liaising with clinicians, nurses and other unit staff.
- Collate and enter Critical Care Minimum Dataset (CCMDS) and Intensive Care National Audit and Research Centre (ICNARC) information for patients admitted to critical care.
- Ensure data contributes to accurate activity data, correct funding and informs best clinical practice.
- Report to the critical care Clinical Information System Manager.
Person Specification
Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience
- Knowledge of data analysis and associated software/computer systems gained through diploma level qualification or equivalent experience.
- Basic level of theoretical knowledge or equivalent experience from a clinical environment providing an understanding of medical terminology, anatomical and physiological terms and complex coding techniques.
- Previous relational database experience.
- Experience dealing with queries, assessing data robustness, identifying inaccurate data, undertaking validation tasks and escalating problem areas.
- Ability to convey complex information verbally and in written formats.
- Advanced MS Excel experience.
- Experience of using Pivot tables, PowerPoint.
- Creating charts/tables that enable resource planning and financial projections.
- Knowledge of case note tracking computerised patient administrative systems.
- Previous experience of clinical audit/information systems.
- Ability to present Critical Care Audit data to a variety of audiences.
