Main duties of the job

As a Band 5 Staff Nurse within Outpatients, you will provide high-quality, compassionate nursing care to patients attending a wide range of specialist clinics and services. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure patients receive safe, effective and person-centred care throughout their outpatient journey.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting consultant‑led clinics and nurse‑led services across a variety of specialties.
  • Undertaking clinical procedures and investigations within your scope of practice, such as venepuncture, cannulation, wound care, ECGs and the administration of medications.
  • Monitoring patients before, during and after procedures, recognising and responding appropriately to any changes in condition.
  • Providing patients and their families with information, advice and health education to support informed decision‑making and self‑management.
  • Maintaining accurate and timely patient records and documentation.
  • Working collaboratively with medical, nursing, allied health professional and administrative colleagues to ensure a positive patient experience.

Person Specification

Experience

  • Post registration experience at Band 5.
  • Experience in a minor surgery environment.

  • Good range of clinical skills including ECGs, bladder scans, wound care.
  • Ability to undertake extended roles.

Qualifications

  • 1st level degree or working towards it.
  • Recognised NMC teaching and assessing qualification.
  • Trained and competent in venepuncture.
