We are looking for a competent and experienced Appointed Person (AP) for Lifting Operations to join our team on a major construction project. This role is critical to ensuring that all lifting activities are planned, documented, and executed safely and efficiently in accordance with current legislation and best practice.

About the role
You will take full responsibility for the production, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of lift plans and lifting procedures, ensuring compliance with LOLER and industry standards.
Key responsibilities
- Function as the designated Appointed Person for all lifting operations on site
- Produce detailed lift plans, method statements, and procedures for all lifting activities
- Ensure all lifting operations are conducted in accordance with LOLER, BS 7121, and company procedures
- Review and approve subcontractor lift plans and ensure consistency with project standards
- Maintain and update a comprehensive lift plan register and ensure document control
- Identify hazards and conduct thorough risk assessments for all lifting activities
- Specify appropriate lifting equipment, cranes, and accessories for planned operations
- Coordinate with crane suppliers, site management, and subcontractors to ensure safe execution
- Ensure proper selection, inspection, and certification of lifting equipment
- Provide technical guidance and support to crane supervisors, lift supervisors, and site teams
- Monitor lifting operations on site and ensure adherence to approved plans and procedures
- Lead investigations into lifting incidents, near misses, or non-conformances
Essential requirements
- Proven experience as an Appointed Person (Lifting Operations) on construction or infrastructure projects
- Valid CPCS Appointed Person qualification (A61 or equivalent)
- Strong working knowledge of LOLER regulations and BS 7121
- Demonstrated experience in producing and managing complex lift plans
- Exceptional understanding of crane operations, lifting techniques, and equipment selection
- Strong organisational and documentation control skills
- Ability to manage multiple lifting activities in a fast-paced project environment
- Effective communication and coordination skills across multidisciplinary teams
- CSCS card and solid understanding of UK health & safety legislation
Desirable qualifications & experience
- Experience working on large-scale or Tier 1 contractor projects
- Engineering or construction-related qualification
- Experience in sectors such as infrastructure, rail, energy, or heavy civil engineering
- Valid CPCS Appointed Person qualification (A61 or equivalent)
- CITB SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) for site managers
