ABOUT THE ROLE
Join our innovative Northumbria Physio Clinic, providing high-quality MSK and sports physiotherapy to student athletes while supporting the clinical education of physiotherapy students in a dynamic, student-led placement environment.
The Northumbria Physio Clinic is based at City Campus in Newcastle. It provides accessible, high-quality musculoskeletal and sports physiotherapy to students, staff, and the wider university community. Operating as both a clinical service and an active placement environment, the clinic supports physiotherapy students undertaking degree related placements alongside qualified practitioners, creating a dynamic learning environment grounded in real patient care.
The clinic works in close partnership with NU Sport to support scholar athletes, including those from regional, national and international external partners such as i2i Football Academy Scholars, recreational sports participants, and university staff, while contributing to the university’s broader health, wellbeing, and academic mission.
Northumbria University supports a large and diverse student athlete population. This consists of around 200 sport scholars alongside TASS-funded performers. These athletes compete across BUCS and performance sport programmes representing a wide range of sports, from team-based and contact sports to individual and endurance disciplines.Most of our athletes will be balancing high training and competition loads alongside academic study. The student athlete population requires evidence based, holistic physiotherapy support that prioritises injury prevention, rehabilitation, concussion management, and safe return to performance, delivered in close collaboration with members of the multi-disciplinary team.
Based from our newly refurbished Physiotherapy Clinic, while also working across the universitys sports facilities at city and coach lane campuss, this role combines direct physiotherapy provision for student athletes with the clinical education of physiotherapy students on placement. You will work collaboratively with the wider clinic team to support students’ professional development within this innovative service. As an active member of the sport and exercise multi-disciplinary team, you will contribute to the health, performance, and overall experience of our student athlete population.

ABOUT THE TEAM
This role will embed you within the physiotherapy academic and placement team within the School of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation and offer the opportunity to work closely with coaches and the wider multidisciplinary team involved in supporting student athletes. You will be supported by experienced physiotherapy educators in relation to providing excellent student experience. We are creating a team of specialist physiotherapists within the clinic providing opportunity for peer support with likeminded, enthusiastic professionals with an interest in musculoskeletal practice and sport.
You will work in our newly refurbished physiotherapy clinic at our City Campus, as well as across the Northumbria Sport facilities at both City and Coach Lane campuses.
ABOUT YOU
To be successful in the role you will have:
- A BSc (Hons) or MSc (pre-registration) in Physiotherapy, current HCPC registration, and CSP membership with professional indemnity cover
- Demonstrable clinical experience in a musculoskeletal setting, with contemporary knowledge of physiotherapy assessment, management, and prevention approaches
- Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team and an understanding of the physiotherapists role within student athlete support structures
- Experience of supporting learning in others, with insight into supervising and developing student physiotherapists on placement
- Excellent communication skills, the ability to independently manage a caseload, and strong time management and prioritisation skills
- A commitment to ongoing CPD, record-keeping in line with professional standards, and a current annual Basic Life Support qualification
