Structural Engineer – Southampton – Up to £45.00 per hour – Immediate start available
Experiences structural engineer sought to contribute to a significant RAAC survey project in Southampton. The initial contract period is set for two weeks, commencing on 13th July, with a strong likelihood of extension based on project needs. There may also be opportunities for night shift surveys, providing flexibility in working hours.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as Project Engineer, leading efforts in conducting thorough surveys and data collection specifically for a large-scale RAAC (Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete) survey.
- Conduct visual inspections from a Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP), meticulously recording and photographing any defects found on RAAC panels to ensure comprehensive documentation.
- Mark up engineering drawings with observations, ensuring that all findings are accurately labelled and included in detailed reports for client review.
- Write and interpret reports that highlight key structural defects and observations, providing clear and actionable insights based on the data collected.
- Assess and review constraints related to the installation of remedial structures, collaborating closely with the site team to navigate and overcome any challenges encountered during the survey process.
- Evaluate the installation of remedial works to ensure structural adequacy, applying engineering principles to verify that all solutions meet safety and performance standards.
Requirements
- Proven experience in surveying RAAC buildings, adhering to the guidelines set forth by the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE).
- A seasoned engineer with a meticulous eye for detail, committed to delivering high-quality outputs in all aspects of work.
- Ideally, a degree in engineering from an accredited institution, demonstrating a solid foundation in structural engineering principles.
- A strong understanding of key failure modes in structural materials, with the ability to apply engineering judgement to assess realistic deterioration scenarios.
- Practical skills in translating theoretical designs into real-world applications, ensuring that engineering solutions are both feasible and effective.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to represent RCS to clients confidently, articulating technical concepts clearly and addressing any challenges that may arise.
