Job Summary

We are expanding our Nuclear Team and seeking a Senior Safety Case Expert to develop and deliver safety cases across civil and defence nuclear projects. The role includes supporting project lifecycles from concept to commissioning, engaging with clients, suppliers and regulators, and mentoring the safety case team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a nuclear safety case practitioner supporting the AECOM (Civil and Defence) portfolio.
  • Maintain competence and resource support for the Safety Qualifying Engineering Personnel (SQEP) framework.
  • Assist in bid preparation and negotiation of nuclear safety aspects.
  • Lead the delivery of safety case documentation for projects.
  • Build and sustain client relationships to promote a ‘right‑first‑time’ technical delivery.
  • Provide advice on regulatory compliance, standards and guidance.
  • Support interactions with regulators, safety committees, and internal stakeholders.
  • Resolve emergent technical issues and unique project conditions.
  • Mentor and coach the nuclear safety case team.
  • Develop and deliver safety training to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Stay current with industry developments, recommending best‑practice changes.

Qualifications

  • Honours (2:1) or Masters degree in a STEM discipline or equivalent mix of qualifications and UK nuclear industry experience.
  • Chartership (or working toward one) in a STEM discipline with a professional institution.
  • Experience in developing nuclear safety cases in civil and/or defence nuclear sectors.
  • Experience delivering mentoring, training and coaching activities.
  • Demonstrated competency in the Nuclear Safety Case Discipline Suitable Qualified and Experienced Personnel (SQEP) framework.
  • Ability to obtain Security Check (SC) clearance.

Security Clearance

This role requires the ability to obtain Security Check (SC) clearance. Employment is conditional on meeting UK security clearance requirements.
