Role Overview

Layout and Installation Assemblies Engineer – Site Specific. Hybrid working, primary location Derby, Warrington or Manchester.

Reports to the Manager – Site Specific Layout. Responsible for designing and defining site‑specific Reactor Island layouts, MEP modules and ensuring safety, cost and schedule targets are met.

Responsibilities

  • Progress the design of Reactor Island Layout and Installation for site‑specific applications through gated design review processes.
  • Define layout and installation strategies for MEP modules, ensuring alignment with system, component and integration requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional stakeholders and customers to capture requirements, assumptions and resolve integration challenges.
  • Support configuration management, risk identification and technical decision‑making across the design lifecycle.
  • Contribute to constructability, manufacturing and commissioning strategies to enable modular delivery.
  • Produce and support technical documentation and inputs into design reviews and safety case development.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical or related engineering (character degree, Chartered status or progress toward Chartered).
  • Experience delivering installation, layout or modular design solutions within complex engineering programmes.
  • Strong understanding of systems engineering principles, including requirements, risk and design review processes.
  • Experience in plant layout, building services, pipework routing or process system integration.
  • Familiarity with regulated or safety‑critical environments (e.g. nuclear, oil & gas, infrastructure) is advantageous.

Location & Working Arrangements

Based at any Rolls‑Royce SMR location with hybrid working supported. Regular collaboration is expected with occasional travel to other sites.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary: £42,000 – £55,150 (performance‑related target bonus 12.5%).

  • Benefits allowance – £2,200 per annum to build a bespoke package.
  • Employer pension contribution 12% and employee contribution 6%.
  • 28 days holiday plus public holidays, with ability to buy or sell up to 4 days.

  • One‑off payment £250 for new starters for home office purchases.

Security Clearance & Checks

Successful candidates will undergo BPSS clearance and pre‑employment checks, including DBS and financial probity screening.
