Job Title: Foundation Fellowship Programme Director (FF3)Start Date: AugustContract Type: Fixed termDuration: 36 monthsPurpose: Internal secondment to provide structured training and supervised clinical development for foundation fellowship doctors.

This post is appointed on a fixed‑term basis to provide defined educational opportunities, supervised clinical practice, and experience aligned to the relevant specialty training curriculum. The postholder will also support service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead delivery of the Foundation Fellowship Programme
  • Monitor trainee progress, performance and well‑being
  • Support Educational Supervisors and ensure high‑quality placements
  • Lead recruitment, induction and appraisal processes
  • Work closely with the Director of Medical Education and the wider education team
  • Support doctors in difficulty and promote inclusive training opportunities

In this role the individual works alongside the Foundation Fellowship Programme Director for F1/F2, overseeing recruitment, training, supervision and appraisal for the fellowship programme. Strong leadership and communication skills are essential.

Person Specification

Qualifications, Training & Experience:

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • GMC registration with a licence to practise
  • Appropriate knowledge base and ability to apply sound clinical judgement
  • Track record of educational supervision
  • Experience of organising postgraduate and undergraduate education
  • Understanding of NHS structure and processes
  • Experience of working with students or doctors in an educational setting
  • Experience of managing a multi‑professional team

Desirable Criteria:

  • University higher degree
  • Educational qualification
  • Experience of educational leadership and education
  • Evidence of submitting work for peer review
  • Experience of supervising a locally employed doctor
  • Understanding of routes into training for locally employed doctors

Aptitudes and Skills:

  • Evidence and ability to work effectively in multi‑professional teams
  • Understanding of equality and diversity and how this affects patients, visitors and staff
  • Evidence and ability to communicate and liaise effectively with patients and colleagues (verbal and written communication skills in English)
  • Knowledge of the LED Charter
  • Evidence of participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
