Lead the delivery of high‑quality community parks services that help keep Ōtautahi Christchurch a place people are proud to live in.
We have an opportunity for a hands‑on leader to take ownership of the day‑to‑day delivery of parks maintenance across your sector. You’ll lead small, multi‑disciplinary teams and work closely with contractors to ensure our parks, open spaces and public assets are well maintained, safe, and reflect the standards our communities expect.

Key aspects of the role include:
- Leading, coaching and supporting teams to deliver consistent, high‑quality outcomes
- Building trusted relationships with community stakeholders and representing the Parks Unit
- Overseeing parks condition, identifying issues early, and ensuring they are resolved effectively
- Supporting delivery of capital works and contributing to asset management planning
- Managing contractor performance and ensuring services meet agreed standards and budgets.
Alongside leading your team, you’ll oversee performance, manage budgets, and contribute to planning and delivery of maintenance and capital works programmes. You’ll also be responsible for monitoring service levels, resolving issues, and driving continuous improvement across your area.
You’ll play a key role in connecting the work on the ground with the wider Council, building strong relationships with community boards, elected members, iwi and local groups. Your ability to navigate these relationships will be essential in ensuring services are delivered in a way that meets both operational needs and community expectations.

We’re looking for someone who has:
- Strong communication and relationship skills, with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders
- Confidence managing competing priorities and making sound, practical decisions
- Experience overseeing contracts or service delivery arrangements
- A focus on continuous improvement and lifting service performance
- Strong organisational skills, including managing budgets and resources
- A full New Zealand driver’s licence
You’re an experienced people leader, comfortable operating in a busy, visible environment where priorities can shift and expectations are high. You know how to get the best out of a team while maintaining a strong focus on service delivery and outcomes.
Your background may be in parks, infrastructure, facilities or a similar operational setting, and you bring proven experience leading teams, managing service delivery, and working with contractors or external providers.

Salary range
The salary band for this position goes from $96,465 to $107,183 per annum based on a 40‑hour week. Starting salaries will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, and relativities within the immediate team and in the broader organisation for the same or similar roles.
