Role Description The Quantity Surveyor is a full-time, office based/on-site role based in Chelmsford, supporting the commercial and financial aspects of painting and decorating projects. Day-to-day responsibilities include preparing and reviewing Bills of Quantities (BOQ), assisting with cost planning and budgeting, and monitoring project costs against estimates. The role involves producing regular cost reports, identifying variances, and recommending corrective actions to maintain profitability and value for clients. The Quantity Surveyor will collaborate with site teams, review contracts and quotations, and contribute to accurate tender submissions. This position requires strong attention to detail, clear communication with internal and external stakeholders, and a proactive approach to managing project finances.

Qualifications

  • Candidates should possess strong skills in BOQ preparation and quantity take-offs to support accurate estimating and tendering.
  • Experince within the painting and decortating industry is essential
  • Candidates should possess skills in cost planning and cost management to develop budgets, track expenditures, and ensure projects remain financially viable.
  • Candidates should possess skills in cost control and cost reporting to monitor financial performance, produce periodic reports, and highlight risks or savings.
  • Candidates should possess good numerical and analytical skills, with proficiency in relevant surveying or estimating software and MS Office (especially Excel).
  • Candidates should possess effective communication and stakeholder management abilities, with strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Candidates should ideally have previous experience in construction, painting and decorating, or a related field, and a relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a similar discipline.
  • Candidates should possess the ability to work on-site, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and contribute positively to a collaborative team environment.
