SEN Assessment & Review Officer

Summary

The SEN Assessment & Review Officer plays a crucial role within the Social/NGO/Health & Care sector, focusing on the assessment and review of Special Educational Needs (SEN) provisions. This position is vital for ensuring that children and young people receive the support they need in accordance with the Children and Families Act 2014 and the SEN Code of Practice 2015. The role involves managing complex caseloads, coordinating Education, Health, and Care (EHC) Plans, and addressing legal challenges. This position is integral to the development and implementation of effective SEN strategies, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and enhancing the quality of life for individuals with special educational needs.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage the assessment and review process for EHC Plans in line with statutory guidelines.
  • Handle a complex caseload, ensuring timely and effective service delivery.
  • Liaise with families, schools, and other stakeholders to facilitate the development and implementation of EHC Plans.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of SEN provisions, making recommendations for improvements.
  • Address and resolve legal challenges related to SEN assessments and provisions.
  • Ensure compliance with the Children and Families Act 2014 and the SEN Code of Practice 2015.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance on SEN matters to colleagues and external partners.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role within the Social/NGO/Health & Care sector.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Children and Families Act 2014 and SEN Code of Practice 2015.
  • Proven experience as a case coordinator, managing complex caseloads.
  • Strong understanding of EHC Plans and their implementation.
  • Ability to handle legal challenges effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
