Role Overview
Environmental Manager – Salary: £42,490 annually – Grade 5.1 – 40 hours weekly (weekends, bank holidays and out of hours work when required). Location: London, N17 0FJ.

Responsibilities
- Ensure all allocated work meets contractual standards on the scheduled day and time through independent and joint formal monitoring.
- Provide staff training and mentoring to ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations and safe working practices.
- Allocate work and staff to meet contract requirements.
- Maintain safety, security and cleanliness of vehicles, plant and tools used within the street cleansing service.
- Supervise collections operatives and teams to ensure daily work is completed to standard, signed off, filed and recorded.
- Identify staff shortfalls, redeploy staff or engage agency staff as needed.
- Liaise with drivers and crews of all vehicles, issue daily instructions, debrief on work completion, and conduct progress checks using company communication systems and on‑site spot checks.
- Manage driver hours via Tachos and VISION, addressing any issues.
- Adhere to agreed policies and procedures.
- Ensure waste disposal complies with statutory rules and regulations.
- Carry out health, safety, quality and environmental inspections, risk assessments, complete documentation and brief staff as required.
- Maintain positive relationships with the public, clients, customers, trade unions and company representatives, handling complaints and enquiries courteously and professionally.
- Attend site meetings when required.
- Ensure daily pre‑start checks for all street cleansing vehicles are completed and documented, reporting defects and ensuring prompt repairs or maintenance.
Essential Qualifications
- Previous managerial experience.
- Five or more years of experience in environmental services in the public and/or private sector.
- Full valid driving licence.
- Experience interacting with customers and key influencers.
- Strong organisational skills.
Desirable Qualifications
- Proven track record in a similar role.
- Experience in waste management.
