Assistant Product Designer (Mould Design)

Company: Sustainable Design Studio
Apply for the Assistant Product Designer (Mould Design)
Location: Hartley Wintney
Job Description:

At Sustainable Design Studio we turn plastic waste into things the world actually wants. We’re an award-winning studio, and our desktop recycling machines and injection moulds ship to over 90 countries, putting the power to recycle plastic and make real products from it into people’s own hands.

Our work has been featured in Forbes, Dezeen and Grand Designs. We help set up recycling workshops all over the world, and we’ve worked with brands and organisations ranging from Lush to the United Nations. This is design that gets seen, gets shipped globally, and does real good.

We’re looking to expand our team with an enthusiastic Assistant Product Designer who’s genuinely excited about recycled plastic and the circular economy. You’ll take the lead on our custom mould design and help shape the future of our machines. It’s a creative, hands-on role with real ownership from your first projects.

What you’ll do:

Design custom moulds for clients in Fusion 360, from brief through to a manufacture-ready file.

Prepare mould designs for fabrication, whether produced in-house or externally.

Test the returned moulds on our own recycling and injection machines, and write up clear test reports.

Hand finished work over to the team for shipping and despatch.

Help design future Sustainable Design Studio machines (full training given, including electrical basics).

What you’ll need:

Confident, hands-on Fusion 360 skills (this is essential).

A working understanding of 3D printing.

Clear written English and the initiative to own your work in a small team.

The right to work in the UK and the ability to work on-site in Hartley Wintney.

Lovely to have (but we’ll teach you): an interest in recycling and sustainability, design-for-manufacture or injection-moulding basics, CNC, prototyping and workshop skills, Excel. You don’t need industry experience. We design our moulds and machines our own way, and we’ll teach you the recycling and injection-moulding side through hands-on support.

This role suits a recent product or industrial design graduate who cares about the environment and wants a first role with real creative responsibility, or someone with a year or two of experience looking for variety and purpose in a growing green business. Curiosity and a willingness to learn matter more to us than a long CV.

Hours are full-time, 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Benefits include a company pension, free parking and flexitime where practical.

To apply, send your CV and a short cover note on why you’d be a good fit. A portfolio is highly recommended.
