Deputy Manager – Specialist Children’s Care Placement (High-Needs Behaviour Support)

About the role:

We are looking for a resilient, compassionate, and experienced Deputy Manager to support a child with highly complex needs and challenging behaviours within a specialist home-based setting.

This is a unique opportunity for someone who understands that every behaviour has a meaning and who can provide consistent, therapeutic, and structured support to help a young person feel safe, understood, and able to progress.

As Deputy Manager, you will play a key role in leading and supporting a team, maintaining high standards of care, and ensuring the child receives consistent support aligned with their care plan and risk assessments.

The successful candidate will have experience working within challenging environments such as:

✔ CAMHS / mental health services

✔ FCAMHS or secure services

✔ Psychiatric wards / PICU

✔ Residential children’s homes

✔ Learning disability services

✔ Autism support services

✔ Supported living or complex care environments

You will be confident supporting situations involving:

• Aggression or violence

• Self-harm risks

• Emotional dysregulation

• Property damage

• Absconding behaviours

• Complex trauma responses

• Communication difficulties

• Autism and learning disability needs

You will be responsible for:

✔ Supporting the Registered Manager with daily operations

✔ Leading by example during challenging situations

✔ Coaching and mentoring staff

✔ Ensuring safeguarding procedures are followed

✔ Supporting behaviour management strategies

✔ Promoting positive behaviour support approaches

✔ Maintaining professional boundaries and safe practice

We are looking for someone who:

⭐ Has strong experience supporting children or young people with complex needs

⭐ Has worked in high-risk or challenging environments

⭐ Can remain calm under pressure and lead during incidents

⭐ Understands de-escalation and trauma-informed approaches

⭐ Has experience with physical intervention training (PMVA, MAPA, CPI, NAPPI, DMI or similar desirable)

⭐ Has a strong understanding of safeguarding and risk management
