Vickerstock are working in partnership with a leading food manufacturing business to recruit an Assistant Production Manager for their high-performing production facility based in Cookstown.

Reporting directly to the Production Manager, you will play a key role in driving operational excellence, supporting production performance, developing teams, and ensuring the highest standards of quality, safety and compliance are maintained across the site.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the Production Manager in the daily running of the manufacturing operation to ensure optimum production performance.
  • Driving a strong health & safety culture and ensuring compliance with all regulatory, environmental and company standards.
  • Taking responsibility for product quality, GMP compliance and adherence to agreed production specifications.
  • Supporting the leadership, development and performance management of production teams, including attendance management and employee engagement.
  • Ensuring site policies, procedures and SOPs are effectively communicated, trained and consistently followed.
  • Producing daily and weekly production reports, analysing key performance metrics and identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Building strong working relationships across Production, Engineering, Quality and other key departments.
  • Supporting the delivery of site improvement and capital investment projects.
  • Promoting and embedding lean manufacturing principles, including problem-solving, root cause analysis and continuous improvement activities.

What you’ll need to succeed

  • Degree qualified in Applied Science, Chemical Engineering, Food Technology or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a supervisory or management role within a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Strong IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving abilities with a proactive, hands-on approach.
  • Ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively across all levels of the business.
  • Proven leadership capabilities with the ability to motivate and develop teams.

Desirable Criteria (it would be great if you have these but don’t worry if you don’t!)

  • Previous experience within cheese or whey processing.
  • Experience using SCADA control systems.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Level 3 Food Hygiene qualification.
  • Level 2 HACCP qualification.
